2/8/24 post: (Editor's Note: "The Crew" refers to the new resident-driven fundraising effort --- to sell donated items coming from families of deceased residents, current residents, or incoming residents. There will be specialized teams to send items to dealers, consignment shops, charities, or to storage for eventual Garage Sale(s) here at TVAB which would be open to the public (frequency TBD). Here's the latest message from organizers Pam B. and Betsy A.): Thanks so much to those who signed up to be a member of TVAB's The Crew! We are very excited about the number of people who are interested in helping. The positive buzz around campus is great! We are currently working on draft agreements between The Crew and the family's representative. We met with administration to work out some logistics, namely manpower to move boxes. They are looking into a volunteer program, possibly with Elon students. If you know of any potential volunteers, let us know. We plan to call members of The Crew together for a meeting soon. At this meeting we hope to have a list of local charities that will pick up donations on a timely basis. We also will ask some of you to volunteer to co-captain your team, which will be helpful if one of the co-captains is away and unable to coordinate members for a job. To keep this project from being too hard on everyone, we need more volunteers! You know how so many folks are always on a cruise....so invite your besties to come to our meeting and join The Crew! Thanks! (Editor) 9/4/22 post: There is a need for volunteers who could help fellow resident(s) who are in a temporary pinch. They might need a ride somewhere; need a dog walker; need their take-out meals picked up; need to have their mail brought to their door. Are you interested in residents helping residents? If so, respond to the email cited in the banner message above and indicate where/how you'd like to pitch in. Afterall, this might happen to any of us some day. We'll create separate lists for each kind of help, adding more needs as they might arise. Thanks. 4/11/22 post: Sign up sheets to volunteer to help at the Garage Sale are now on the counter in the cubby room. On May 11th and 12th, you are signing up to help organize and mark the donations. Also, on Thursday the 12th, staff will be invited to shop. On Friday, the 13th of May, you are signing to help on the day of the sale which is open to everyone. You are welcome to sign up for more than one time and/or more than one day. We appreciate your willingness to help and make this a fun and successful occasion. Thanks, Roberta E. 2/11/24 post: This was for a previous Garage Sale in 2022. More information will be forthcoming for 2024's Garage Sale. 4/2/22 post: The Care and Concern Committee is establishing 2 new services for our residents in Heritage Place. We offer you the opportunity to volunteer and be a part of one or both of these services. First, the Escort Service. This means you will assist residents, mainly in Assisted Living and Memory Care, in getting to functions in the Gathering Place. Example: 4 residents attended the recent Fashion Show, and the volunteer walked with them from Assisted Living to the Gathering Place and back home after the show. Second, the mail delivery service. Monday through Friday a volunteer will deliver mail to residents in Assisted Living and Memory Care. You don't have to become a committee member to be one of our volunteers. If you are interested in either (or both ) of these opportunities please contact Chair Mary M. She will be happy to sign you up and/or answer any questions you might have. Thank you. Mary M. 2/21/22 post: Volunteers needed to help with 2nd, 4th, and 5th floor styrofoam recycling. You would gather from the trash room, nest, and take the styrofoam to one-armed Joan M. where she'd enlist your help in consolidating and then tying the bags. Contact one-armed Joan M. P.S..... She'd probably appreciate your help after she's no longer one-armed... we wish her a speedy recovery.
