03/12/24 post: Four TVAB residents will be visiting the town of Milton, NC on Saturday, March 23. Milton, which is 50 minutes north on Hwy 62, is the location of Thomas Day’s home and furniture workshop. Day was a renown free Black furniture maker of the mid 19th century. In addition, the town is noted for its 18th and 19th century architecture. We will also visit the local museum as well as enjoy lunch at a local eatery.
We will leave from Village Landing at 10am. Our car is full, but if you are interested in this excursion using your own car(s) contact Sue W. 10/3/23 post: Mrs. Dash seasoning, an alternative to salt, is available in our dining venues. Jennifer Y. 7/13/23 post: If you are preparing for your 2nd shot in the Shingrix shingles series, make sure to allow for 3-4 days afterwards with no other plans in case you get flu-like symptoms. I just had to cancel Lakeside, doctor and dentist and was absolutely miserable! Have Tylenol, Motrin and a blanket for chills on hand. Jennifer Y. 3/28/23 post: The Bryan Series had announced the Speakers for the 2023 – 2024 Series entitled "Heroes in Our Midst." Highly recommend! To find out more go to https://www.guilford.edu/bryanseries. The speakers include Sully Sullenberger, Walter Parkes, Lynsey Addario, Charles Bolden, and Judy Woodruff. The series begins in September and ends April of 2024 and is presented at the Tanger Center in Greensboro.There is also a special speaker this year in November. Neil deGrasse Tyson will present on November 16th of this year on “The Cosmic Perspective”. Here is her announcement.SACS and MOVING SALE- The Semi Annual Clearance Sale (SACS) and NOW MOVING SALE has started and there a lot of goodies on sale. I added some new yarn and moved some yarn to different sale areas. Come in and find out if the yarn that you had been eyeing is still available! Or has it been moved to a different area?? There are spring yarns, summer yarns, fall yarns and winter yarns all for sale! Decisions, decisions, decisions... The sale will go through the first week of February or until we close to start packing the shop. There will be NO REWARDS points given for the sale yarns and all sales ARE FINAL. Come and help us out!! The more you purchase, the less we have to move!Please enjoy and support this wonderful yarn shop, the ONLY one in Burlington. (Some of us may have lost track of the memos/emails that informed us of these unique situations.) 12/13/22 post: Dr Richard C. will be playing with The Company Shops Band --- the oldest musical group in Burlington -- as it presents its Christmas Concert at Elon Methodist Church at 7:00 p.m., tonight December 13. It's open to the public and free of charge. Jennifer Y. 12/12/22 post: Emily A. and Geraldine V., two of our servers from Edith Street, are performing with the Williams Orchestra on Wednesday night, December 14, at 7:00 p.m. in the Walter M. Williams High School auditorium. Their ESC colleague, Camillia M., wrote about this special occasion on the backside of the blackboard next to the host stand. They are hoping some TVABers will come to show their support. It's a free concert. 10/22/22 post: We've noticed while walking our dog lately, that someone, singular or plural, is not picking up after their dog(s). PLease make sure you carry bags with you or make sure visiting guests know to pick up. The deposits noticed were along the pond walking path as well as the Hermitage fence and they were substantial!!! BY not picking up you're giving the rest of us with dogs a bad rap! Barry C.
9/15/22 post: A recording of the Sept 13 Town Hall meeting will be looped on the in-house TV channel this weekend (Sept 17-18). If you ever miss a Town Hall or Coffee Hour or wish that you could hear something again, always check your in-house channel the weekend following to see if it's being looped. J.Y.

8/11/22 post: Max M. of Life Enrichment welcomes suggestions and ideas for outings. With his prior experience in the travel industry, he enjoys making plans and arrangements. Also, he's started to put an informational page next to an outing's sign-up sheet in the 3-ring binder in the Mail Room, with the hopes that helpful detail will encourage sign-ups. Thank you, Max.

6/20/22 post: Coffee Hours (like town hall meetings) often convey important information to residents. If you miss attending or watching a Coffee Hour live, check with Life Enrichment to see if they plan to re-broadcast on the in-house TV Channel, 1391. The June 15 Coffee Hour will be re-broadcast on a non-stop looped basis starting 4:00 p.m. June 20 until 9:00 a.m. June 21.
6/18/22 post: "Instacart" shopping is a viable alternative for getting groceries for those with mobility challenges or in quarantine. In attending the most recent education session of "Instacart 101" I learned of special, one-on-one, on-going help being provided by Life Enrichment. This service is good for everyone to know about, especially for those who are technically challenged. These education sessions will be scheduled monthly until year end, so watch for "Instacart 101" on the calendars. After 2022 the sessions will probably be on an as-needed basis. Come learn what new stores have added themselves to the Instacart list. For example, Target is now on board. This "opens up" all kinds of merchandise one can put in their shopping bag.... socks? Undies? Picture frames? Spread the word. Jennifer Y.

6/5/22 post: Resident Warren W. is playing at tomorrow afternoon's New Horizons (of Greensboro) production, on stage in Well-Spring's beautiful 325-seat Auditorium. The show will have two parts: concert and jazz. Warren will play in both. It's on TVAB's June calendar as the excursion titled "Jazz Band Concert," but anyone can attend on their own. There is a back entrance for public events, but most probably your TVAB badge could get you in the front gatehouse entrance if you're not on the bus. Jennifer Y.
6/5/22 post: Attention Garden Home residents -- our street signs have been removed for painting. Make sure your visitors know of this temporary situation. I've requested that gatehouse Security be informed not to give drivers directions that require looking for a street sign. Hopefully this situation will be shortlived. (Per Cary, Fire and EMS do not rely on street signs.) Jennifer Y.
6/3/22 post: If you present your Medicare card to the Walgreens pharmacy you can get 4 free Covid home tests. I did this on Wednesday. I was told you can do this once a month. Dave P.

4/13/22 post: It was suggested to Admin that they consider obtaining and installing an off-road address for the Rockwood gatehouse . This could then be utilized for visiting friends, family , deliveries etc. As it is now, most GPS's direct people to the Hermitage Gate when searching the primary address for TVAB. Also, TVAB could modify its website directions to include the "new" Rockwood address to help guide newbies to the correct entrance. Cary H. thought this is a good idea and said he’d explore getting it done. Barry C.
3/4/22 post: An agenda item on next week's Resident Council meeting will have our secretary, Tammy S. talk about Ukraine. She and her sister Zina M. have relatives there. The Council meetings are routinely televised on the in-house channel, so you are encouraged to watch and learn. The meeting begins at 10:30 a.m. March 8. Jennifer Y.
3/1/22 post: more TVAB job openings are finally going up (i.e., posted) on Well-Spring's website. This will hopefully speed things up in finding new employees. Those who might want to monitor both W-S and TVAB openings can go to www.well-spring.org and click on "Careers." Kudos for our residents' degree of tolerance (and maybe even awe) for how our loyal staff here is working very hard to cover for the openings. Jennifer Y.
2/28/22 post: The revised orientation for new residents will have its debut on March 16 at 10:00 a.m. in the Gathering Place. Plans are for the New Resident Orientations to alternate on the 3rd Wednesdays of the month with Coffee Hours. Current residents are invited to attend New Resident Orientations whenever they're scheduled; however, this one coming up on March 16 will be the first, only, and last orientation to be televised on the in-house TV Channel. Come see what our new neighbors are learning about their new TVAB home and maybe learn something you weren't aware of yourself. Who knows? Jennifer Y.
2/21/22 post: If you want to read more detailed information about Well-Spring, its entire Disclosure Statement (narrative and financial statements) is available on the NC Dept of Insurance (DOI) website. NC CCRCs are required to send in each year's Disclosure Statement for public posting. Go to www.ncdoi.gov. Click on Insurance Industry Tab. Click on Continued Care Retirement Communities (CCRC) box. Click on Disclosure Statements and scroll to the desired community. Click on that community and you'll see a link to the pdf file for the Statement (you'll need Adobe Reader on your computer). Want to see a one-page summary of each NC CCRC? Instead of clicking on Disclosure Statements, click on Reference Guide. The Reference Guide's Table of Contents shows you the page number for each CCRC's summary page. Scroll to the desired page. As an aside, NC regulations require a CCRC to give its depositors a copy of its current Disclosure Statement.
