Has any resident ever transferred their “old” phone number to their cell phone or forwarded their “old” number to their TVAB landline? If so, what is the process? Please contact Betsy H. in Marketing. 2/5/24 post: People are looking for ways to prevent spam and robo calls constantly coming in on their house phone (not cell phone). This problem was brought up in the January 29 Fireside Chat, and April is going to explore this situation with the Facilities Director. Our campus phone system is through a company called Spectrumvoip, which is NOT part of the "big" Spectrum that provides our cable TV and WiFi systems. "Voip" stands for "Voice Over Internet Protocol." Dwayne of Facilities has provided me the names of two cordless telephone systems that you can research on the internet if you'd like to consider buying. These two products are, in order of Dwayne's preference, AT&T CL 82407 and VTech: IS8151-5. Each has what I call a "mother ship" base with cordless extensions you can place throughout your home. (Remember, garden home folks without generators would want to have at least one corded phone in additional to a cordless system in order to have phone service during a power outage.) Some of you may have other call blocking product information you'd like to share on this blog. Or you're using one of the two products mentioned above and have some caveats or tips. Jennifer Y. 2/5/24 response: We purchased an AT&T spam block telephone from BJ’s 6 years ago. It has worked beautifully for us eliminating robo calls. However now that we moved to TVAB there are several things we have learned. 1. SARA can not get through with alerts so you will need a cell phone or something else that receives texts and calls. 2. Some residents have trouble following the prompts to get a call to go through to us.Otherwise we have enjoyed the quiet especially during election years. It is not a service that you pay for. It is totally in the phone system itself. It is not hard to set up.I hope this helps. We are extremely pleased with it. My husband is facing his fifth knee surgery in two years and occasionally my low back acts up. Bella can walk on retractable or six foot leash; she enjoys the trail along meadow to pond. She will enthusiastically stand up on hind legs and pull with excitement when she sees other people or dogs as she loves them all. We are on Lakewood Ct. I keep leashes near sunroom door (it's under construction). Bad back today from moving boxes, could use help!!! She goes out in morning 8-10 and late afternoon 5-7. Pam B. 8/5/22 post: I'm seeking a passenger companion for off-campus outings -- for shopping; for an occasional dutch meal out, etc. I provide the vehicle (mine) and the driver (me) in exchange for a companion's help with loading and unloading my rollator. It's not a hands-on caretaker situation; I'm fine getting myself in/out of the driver's seat and doing the driving. I just need help with getting the rollator in/out of the vehicle. This could be a mutually beneficial arrangement for someone who no longer drives.
