4/22/24 post: I'd like to acknowledge weekend Security officer David for trying his best to get the slides moving on our TV Information channel this past weekend. The routine cycle would get stuck on the same message each time. David and Travis tried their best to fix the problem, with no luck. David's recourse was to click the mouse each time he saw the same message stick too long. That would get things moving, until it stuck again. Jennifer Y. 4/18/24 post: My special thanks to new Resident Association President, Dr Warren W, for surprising me after I "passed him the gavel" yesterday. He immediately called on me to tell the audience about this Blog. While I have great hopes for the coming "new" Portal (a product of management), this Blog (a product for and by residents) is so very different.... in its style, in its intent, in its content, and in its resident-to-all-other-residents communication. Explore it, and you'll see what I mean. The Association is in good hands with our new President, and I wish him the very best. I also thank Ronnie D. for accepting the Treasurer position.... our treasury is in capable hands as well. As for me? I plan to continue with communication efforts via occasional email "tips." Remember that we all chose to be here, so "Bloom where you're planted." Don't miss out on maximizing your TVAB life.... participate and enjoy. Jennifer Y. 4/17/24 post: Thanks to the waitstaff who seem to take orders quickly, coordinate delivery with other staff persons and do so with a happy face. A well-oiled machine. Joan M. 2/6/24 post: Tonight our Stoneybrook Ct residents gathered for a Street Meet to visit with each other over a delicious dinner. Elizabeth took such good care of all of us. Our service for 11 people was perfect. As always our dinner was excellent. Thanks to Chef, Arthur and Charlotte for checking in on us . Linda G. 1/6/24 post: Many thanks to Facility Services staff members, Dwayne and Greg, for their help in my new apartment with the hanging of mirrors and valances. In addition, they tended to several small items that needed “tweaking.” A thank you also to Paul C. for taking time to set up my TV, DVD and ROKU players. As I used to say on the 5th floor: “Better call Paul; he’s just down the hall!" Sue W. 12/14/23 post: THANK YOU to Lee M. and Max M. for assisting with righting and resecuring our angel after she blew down Sunday night. Dave M. 12/7/23 post: To Rubi and Leslie of Dining: a huge ‘attagirl’ for their outstanding service last night. Village Court and Duncan Circle residents had a ‘welcome aboard’ dinner in the private dining room of Lakeside for our new Duncan Circle neighbors. Rubi and Leslie served 21 of us with attentiveness and professionalism. WELL DONE, ladies! Dave and Kathy M. 12/3/23 post: Please convey our thanks and a hearty WELL DONE! to all staff members who worked so hard yesterday. It was a wonderful day. Dave M. (Editor's Note: Dave and Kathy M. had a table at the Merry Market. See his wares in the display window outside the card room and in this blog's "Crafts for Sale" section.) 11/15/23 post: After just celebrating our 1-year anniversary, we were due for our deep clean. We wanted to thank Derek and his housekeeping staff for the wonderful thorough job they did today. They cleaned things that had not been cleaned before we moved in. Now we sparkle with clean windows and window sills plus transom. Rugs looks so much better. Corners hard to reach were found and cleaned to perfection. Angie and her partners keep us clean every time they come from blinds to baseboards. We feel so fortunate to have such a caring staff to keep us looking so fresh . We are so grateful for the kindness and care they give us . Thank you. Linda and Clyde G. 8/11/23 post: I am very grateful to the maintenance and security staff as well as Mary W. for helping me get my daughter's dog back on her leash when she slipped out of her harness as I was walking her today. Everyone showed such great compassion and I agree... it takes a Village, and this is a great one! Grace B. 8/3/23 post: WELL DONE and THANKS to Shannon for accommodating 10 of us at lunch on August 2nd. He put a couple of tables together so we could all sit close together. Our kids and grandkids had a wonderful meal! Dave and Kathy M. 7/21/23 post: My thanks to my TVAB friends who sent me all those nice Get Well and Birthday cards recently. I can't thank everyone individually, so I'm using this blog to let everyone know how much I appreciated those messages. Also, an accolade: my home rehab therapists tell me that our gatehouse has the best and nicest staff they've ever experienced at any entrance anywhere. Gladyne S. 5/27/23 post: WELL DONE to Ashley (and all involved) for a superb Memorial Day 2023 program. It was extremely well attended, and I, personally, appreciate that so many TVAB residents showed up to honor our military people who paid the ultimate price while serving. Dave M. 4/19/23 post: We wanted to thank Shannon for all the time and trips he made trying to get our dinner to us. After walking over to pick up our dinner it was discovered that our preordered take out had mysteriously disappeared. A new meal was put together. Not seeing us waiting in the parlor he was kind enough to deliver it to us. We walked back home and there was no dinner at the door. Headed back over and discovered it was delivered to our neighbors. Then Shannon went and retrieved it and found us again back in the parlor. After all the effort he made during our lost dinner escapade and finally handing it to us we wanted to personally thank him. The best part of this is that our ice cream had barely melted after being in transit for an hour . Thank you Shannon for literally going the extra “ mile” to get our dinner order put together again and getting it to us. Linda and Clyde G. 4/19/23 post: We just had a wonderful meal at Lakeside with our new TVAB neighbors. Clyde left his fleece vest on the back of his chair by mistake. We had only been home 5 minutes when the doorbell rang. Standing there was Elizabeth smiling ( as always) holding Clyde’s vest. We so appreciate the effort made to return his vest so quickly. Our service at dinner tonight was excellent. Our meal was excellent. Thank you Elizabeth for caring and making the extra effort. Clyde and Linda G. 2/8/23 post: I would like to thank TVAB Dining Services for providing our community its own baker, Tirsa. I recently found out that she bakes approximately 90% of our cakes. She makes whole cakes for catering requests. Many of us appreciate "home-made" desserts! Jennifer Y. 1/10/23 post: I now have a new scale. Thank you 5th. floor resident who didn't need it anymore. Joan M. 1/3/23 post: Tonight, January 3rd, Mary V., Betsy B., and I, Roberta E. left the cafe around 7:05 and talked (yes, talked as we walked and scooted) our way down to the elevator and got in. As we approached the 3rd floor, the elevator stopped short of our destination. After about five minutes, we used the emergency phone and spoke to some lady who was not located in NC. She gave us a variety of instructions to see if we could get the elevator doors open. We could not. We asked her to call security and my husband. She never called Dag. But Greg M. from security did arrive and through the closed door, I yelled at him to call Dag.In the meantime, we got a call from someone from the elevator company who told us that help was on the way but wouldn’t arrive for another 45 minutes. The calls were all through the emergency phone in the elevator. Cell phones don’t work there. By this time Jack, Mary’s husband had started looking for us and discovered that we were stuck in the elevator.Greg the security guard managed to pull open the door to the elevator. The floor of the elevator was about 10 inches below the 3rd floor. Jack held the door open while Dag got into the elevator and with Greg’s help got my scooter out. I sat down on the floor and scooted myself out and then Greg lifted me up. Betsy was sitting in the floor in the elevator with her shoes and socks off as she was hot. Greg lifted her up and out and then Mary got out.We want to thank Greg for all he did and we are lucky to have him here. The people who were coming to fix the elevator had not arrived by the time we left. We spent about 35 minutes all in all stranded in the elevator. What an exciting night. We hope none of this happens to anyone else. Roberta E. 1/1/23 post: Candace – FANTASTIC job planning and executing our party. WELL DONE!! Dave M. 12/26/22 post: Well Done to Scott for having helped the community get through frozen water pipes (including ours) on Saturday.  He was here all day and didn’t stop until we all had water service restored.  Dave M. 12/15/22 post: Congratulations to Geraldine V. and Emily A. two of our Dining Associate staff for a great Strings concert at Williams HS the evening of 12/14/22. They are both violinists with the Williams HS orchestra. The audience was treated to string orchestra music performed by 4th graders through high school from several local public schools. Each grade played a couple of pieces, then all musicians of all levels played Ode to Joy together. This grand finale was a first for the students and their conductors since they never rehearsed it together. It sounded great. Congrats to Emily and Geraldine, and thanks to their Dining coworkers who let residents know about this every-two-year concert. Jennifer Y. 12/14/22 post: Clyde and I would like to thank all the crew that helped get our new home ready for our grandchildren on their Thanksgiving visit 3 weeks after we moved in. Terry and Scott worked so hard to hang everything from mirrors, curtain rods to paintings and fix bed frames, change bulbs that had burned out and endless amounts of things to get our house ready to become our home. Dewayne worked tirelessly to get all the TVs working. Angie and her helpers getting our house clean after the big move. We had some water appear on the floor from a possible leak and in 5 minutes there were 4 people trying to find the source. We want to thank Betsy H., Cary and Dale for all the work that they did to get us moved in on time. They worked tirelessly to make it happen. There are others like Lisa S. and Leylah who have made our move a success. Arthur and Emily in food services have helped us figure out where to go and how to get our food straight. Our family arrived for Thanksgiving and we looked like a home and not a storage unit. We are thankful for all the staff that have helped and I didn’t mention their names. Clyde and I are happy to be here and appreciate and are thankful for everyone at TVAB for welcoming us in to the “family “ Thank you. Linda and Clyde G. 12/11/22 post: My thanks to Greg of Security. He has been providing my ride from cottage to the Square for dinner with the new shuttle service, but more recently he went "above and beyond" for another situation. He responded to a pendant push that I made when looking for my Instacart grocery delivery at my door since it had taken so long to arrive. I slipped and fell on the floor. He later found my "lost" groceries that had been left by the shopper/driver at the front gatehouse without a name or address. He brought the bag to my home and put the groceries needing refridgeration into the fridge. Thank you, Greg. Diane B. 12/4/22 post: Mary noted the red and white decor on the light poles and thinks they look great. The interior decorations are also great. Many thanks to all who have been involved in decorating. Jack V. 12/2/22 post: Our Christmas decorating started with candy-striped tinsel on the light poles. BrightView was working on them after dark, November 30th. Looks great! WELL DONE to Sue W. and Dan (of Brightview). Dave M. (Editor's Note: go to Photo Sharing to see a street view of our campus candy canes! Jack S.) 11/23/22 post: Accolades and Thank You to Tersa of Dining staff. When we realized refreshments had not been ordered for today's Scout Troop presentation in the Fireplace Parlor, Jack S. inquired of the kitchen. No one knew of any order. Tersa said, "I'll handle it." She did, and quickly. Thank you, Tersa. Jennifer Y. and Jack S. 10/9/22 post: Thanks to Facility Services and Brightview Landscaping for trimming and removing the lower dead branches from the pine tree walkway behind Lakewood Court between Brookwood Avenue and the gazebo by the pond. It's now lovely, hard surface path to enjoy without obstacles. 10/5/22 post: I would like to place a shout out to Kathy H.! She drove me to a spinal injection, an MRI, a visit with a neurosurgeon, and my pre-op which took two hours. When I came down the hall in a wheelchair, she was dutifully sitting there, waiting for her new TVAB friend. Next week she is getting up at the crack of dawn to drive me to my lumbar spine surgery. We met after I read in the resident directory that her husband was at Louisburg College the year before me! Oh, I forget to mention that she and her husband Ray are volunteer dog walkers!!! Pam B. 9/1/22 post: Yesterday Amber E. drove 5 of us home from a fun trip to the Tanger outlets and lunch at the Mebane Blue Ribbon Diner. We drove home on Interstate 40 she reacted quickly but surely to a vehicle spinning across 3 or 4 lanes directly in front of our van. The spinning car flew past our windshield and over a dirt hill on the side of the road and out of site down the ravine. Amber did not slam on the brakes, there were cars right behind us, but she braked as slowly as possible. She kept moving out of the area as 3 other cars pulled over to render assistance and report the accident. We also called the accident in to 911 and reported where it was and what we had seen. Amber is to be praised for her cool reaction to a truly startling scenario. Lori G. 6/30/22 post: THANKS to Dave K., Dave P., Nan & Lee M. and Kathy M. for putting up our July 4th flags at the entrance and around the lake. TVAB is ready to CELEBRATE our country’s 246th birthday!!!!!!!!!!! Dave M. 6/28/22 post: Congratulations to Michael G. on his attainment of a master's degree in business. 6/26/22 post: Recently, I asked if anyone knew where I could get an antique chair recaned. Lo and behold, the many talented Lee M. said he himself would take the job. It turned out to be a tough job, hard on the hands and wrists, but he persevered and I have my chair back all healthy and ready for another century of service to mankind. I don’t think Lee may be available for another caning job, but I thought you all should know about the hidden talent this man has. Thank you Lee for the grit and hard work. Lori G. 6/18/22 post: Thanks to Amber E. of Life Enrichment for the personalized help she is giving residents as they use Instacart in getting home delivery of their purchases. See related post in Special Announcements. Jennifer Y. 5/31/22 post: A huge thanks to Dave K., Dave P., Lee M., and Kathy M. for placing flags along the main entrance and the lake for Memorial Day, 2022. Dave M. 5/14/22 post: Dave M., thank you for all you did and also thanking Ashley D. Also Ashley D. and Amber E. checked with me on several occasions to see if we needed anything else done. The new Environmental gentleman, Derek, took out our trash several times each day and checked if we needed anything else done. Our staff is wonderful. Roberta E-N. 5/14/22 post: A huge THANKS and WELL DONE to Ashley D. for coming in today to drive the large van so we could take the yard sale remnants to the Hospice Thrift Store. You kept us from having to make several trips in our pick-ups. This was truly above and beyond, and in the spirit of TVAB resident/staff co-operation. Dave M. 5/14/22 post: Kudos to TVAB's Health Care staff for their wonderful care, attitude, expertise, and help that I experienced from them during my recent 2-week stay in Windsor. Mary Kay R. 5/7/22 post: Grateful for the new "siren system" that can let EMS through our gates. A quick siren sound will activate either gate. No more reliance on the i-pad, which could be subject to dead zones, that is carried by Security personnel who might be tending to the emergency or on patrol. New system is very reassuring. Thank you. Jennifer Y. 5/7/22 post: Back up cameras have been added to our two largest buses!! Bus drivers and residents are grateful. Thank you!! Jennifer Y.
4/7/22 post: It may have been one of those "Good Karma Coincidences" in that, at different times today I saw quite a bit of activity in our street. I checked it out. Saw three mountains of mulch that were apparently about to improve the plants and look of the landscape around here. Coincidence? Others had already seen what good work was being done all over the campus. My reaction was to grab a camera and document what might be of interest to one and all. That's why (below) you see the "mulch mountain" plus the guys who put those mountains "in their place." Like other observers, I recognized a momumental (and speedy) task being done. We had some laughs getting the guys to line up with their "tools of the trade." Anyway, my compliments to them! BTW, I am hoping that these caballeros, their families and friends will visit this site for some "suitable for framing" snapshots!" Jack S.
4/3/22 post: A Facilities Department ATTABOY: Recently we had a water leak seeping through the concrete pad of our cottage into a bedroom. We called Facilities (Saturday morning). The duty person called the plumber who arrived in less than an hour and a half. Paul, the plumber, did a pressure check on our water system and confirmed that there was leakage. The fix was to by-pass the existing pipe run under the house and simultaneously convert our water heating to a more modern and efficient on-demand system. Facilities was able to put us into the guest apartment since the water was turned off. First thing Monday morning, Paul showed up with his crew. They went right to work, and by the end of the day we had cold water throughout the house. By dinner time the next day we had hot water and were back to normal. We’re SO grateful to be living here. A hearty WELL DONE! to the Facilities team and our plumbing contractor. Dave & Kathy M. 3/26/22 post: Our best wishes and thank-you to Charity of Dining Services who is leaving us to pursue another job opportunity. We appreciated and enjoyed your good work and cheeriness as we dined. If your feet or ankles need medical attention, look for Charity at the Triad Foot and Ankle Center in Greensboro. Jennifer Y. 3/25/22 post: Thank you to those donating items to the Ukraine Relief Collection. (See Recommendations.) Mary M. 3/21/22 post: The vibrant spring show owes many thanks to the planning and hard work of Candace R. Thank you. Joan M. 2/26/22 post: Thank you to the March issue of The Village Voice for such a nice front-page article about this blog. It provides good instructions on how to find it on the internet. Please see a special comment about "word of mouth" in Recommendations. Jennifer Y. 2/20/22 post: Thanks to Dining staff for brunch deliveries today. Arthur G. delivered to my door, ringing the doorbell and waiting for me to open. Thanks to him and to the other dining staff. Brunch order received was accurate and hot. Kudos. Jennifer Y. 2/17/22 post: Those enjoying the Valentine's dinner gave Dining staff a standing ovation during their meal to recognize the employees' hard work and success. JY
